another exciting dr appt...

ok, that was sarcasm...

J went back to teh GI tomorrow for a check up... He has gained 6 ounces since out last visit (that is not good), and grew 2.5 cms (that is good in some respects). While I am very very excited that he is finally growing vertically, since he didn't gain weight it means he is even MORE underweight.

They rechecked his kidney function test. It was off the last time, so they sent us for more blood work. His levels are still up. This could indicate 2 things. One is plain old dehydration, the other is actual kidney issues. The real problem is that if he is still dehydrated, then it is going to eventually scar up his kidneys. It was not alarmingly off, but enough to raise concern.

The GI is also worried that he is not going to be strong enough to easily recover from surgery in 2 weeks. He is pretty malnurished. She said we needed to be on "survival mode", and to get calories into him any way possible. Everyone is hoping the tonsil surgery will help him want to eat more, so they are trying to put off tube feeding to see if this helps first. Of course to tube feed, it will be another surgery to install the button.

We have also been referred to the feeding clinic down at Kennedy Krieger. I am not thrilled at the prospect, but we are getting to a very critical point. It is a 6 week, intensive day program. It is 45 minutes away, and is kind of scarey. Of course I will do whatever I have to for Jonas.

I think that was the main jist of it. It is really hard to hear these things, time after time, and having no clue what is really wrong, or how to help him.
